Marriage Registration
Brief information about the department:-
1) Providing information related to marriage registration to citizens.
2) Checking the marriage related applications and documents of citizens.
3) Recording marriage registration in the register
Departmental Functions:-
1) Marriage registration is done in Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation as per Maharashtra Marriage Board Exchange/ Marriage Registration Act 1998.
2) Marriage registration can be done in the office of the concerned department (ward committee) of the Municipal Corporation under whose jurisdiction the said area comes. Also, only marriages concluded in Maharashtra will be registered.
3) It is mandatory for the groom to be 21 years of age and the bride to be 18 years of age before their marriage can be registered.
4) Age proof of the bride and groom, residence proof of the bride and groom (the bride must have proofs of pre-marriage.) Also, there must be three witnesses. (The witnesses should be of the same age as the bride and groom or older than them)
5) For Muslims, a copy of their marriage certificate (in English) must be attached.
6) Marriage of a bride and groom of different religions cannot be registered as per the said form under the Maharashtra Marriage Board Regulation and Marriage Registration Act, 1998. To register a marriage under this Act, both the bride and groom must be of the same religion.
However, if one of the two converts before marriage and accepts the religion of the other party to the marriage and both of them become of the same religion (Hi/Mu only), while registering their marriage under this Act, they must submit the following contents,-
1) Affidavit of the converted person regarding voluntary conversion.
2) Affidavit of the person who converted him/her.
3) After both of them have converted to the same religion in this way, a joint affidavit of both, a total of 03 such affidavits must be made on a stamp paper of Rs. 100 purchased before the date of marriage in the name of one of the parties and in the name of the conversion Pandit/Qazi.
