Birth and Death
Information of department:
1) To redress complaints related to birth and death matters.
2) To submit and accept applications for birth and death.
3) To distribute birth and death certificates.
4) To accept applications for cremation/burial certificates and distribute certificates.
5) To accept applications for non-availability certificates for birth and death registration and distribute certificates
Department work:
1)According to the Birth and Death Registration Act 1969, it is mandatory to register births and deaths within 21 days of the occurrence of the event. If the birth or death occurs in a hospital or at home, the birth and death are registered in the office of the concerned department (ward committee) of the Municipal Corporation under whose jurisdiction the area falls. Citizens can obtain the birth certificate from the Civil Service Center of the concerned department office on office working days from 09.45 to 6.15 pm by applying in the prescribed format and paying the prescribed fee.
2)Under section 14 of the Birth and Death Registration Act 1969, the name once registered in the birth certificate cannot be changed again. If there is a mistake in the spelling of the name, corrections can be made, such as correcting the pronunciation of ‘i’ to ‘ee’ but the pronunciation of the name should not be changed.
3)The name of the child can be registered in the birth certificate within 15 years from the date of the birth.
4) Under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, a birth or death certificate is obtained from the Registrar of the local body (e.g. Panchayat Samiti / Gram Panchayat / Nagar Parishad / Municipality / Mahanagarpalika) of the area where the birth or death occurred.
5) Under section 20 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, if the parents of the child have come to settle in India, then the birth can be registered at the Indian Embassy within 60 days of their arrival in India.
6) Under section 20 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, if an Indian person dies outside India, the death can be registered at the Indian Embassy within 60 days.
